if apple updated the macbook screens to 1440x900, I would be happy. I think the macbook is a pretty nice compromise when it comes to size features and portability. I have never been a fan of ultra thin; it needs some heft imo so I don't throw it out with the papers....

not really that but if you have a macbook air underneath a stack of newspapers and you are a little ocd is it really that hard to throw it away in the trash.

Everyone has their own reasons for making or not making a purchase. Fear of throwing away a computer is one I'd not heard before, but that's your business. Thing is, the thin computers aren't for everyone. They're for a specific subset of people. If you don't need the benefits, you're lucky, because you get more for less.
It's a good thing that we live in a world with options, not a bad thing. Having an option you aren't interested in doesn't harm anyone. Not having an option you need on the other hand...

Obviously the MacBook Air is not targeted your needs.
Its targeted those who need a highly portable computer, which probably also travel a lot. They might be able to keep control of it as well, so they don't risk dropping it into the garbage can. Unlike you!
If I tried for a while I probably couldn't even come up with a laptop design as silly as the Air. I'd like to find a person that has room to easily carry around an Air but doesn't have the room to carry around a Macbook (and several hundred extra dollars). Ultraportable my foot.
Asus' eeePC, or that 11" Vaio, now those are ultraportable computers.
Argh, that SSD is driving the price up for the X300.

My Head-Fi feedback: http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f12/th...ngmule-222217/
I personally would be one of the people to take advantage of the MBA and X300.
I have a motorcycle so I HATE having bulk in my bag. Having something that light and thin would be a lifesaver. Shame about it's price though. Also, I hardly EVER use the DVD drive or any of the extra USB ports on my computer, so it'd be perfect for me. Also, how many people really use an ethernet cable when wi-fi is available? The only time my ethernet port is used is because there is NO wi-fi.
I think it's a GREAT balance for those who want ultra portable, but still want to have a larger screen. It's something many people thought you couldn't have both worlds of, but now can. It's a shame that IBM and Apple are making massive amounts of mark-up to make it a reality, but if people are willing to pay for it....
