I live in The Netherlands. Really great if you like cycling . I've got a normal city type bike ( gazelle is the make) and a "giant"mountain bike wich I use when I go for leasure biking.

On your craiglist I saw this:
54" Team Miyata road bike - $700 (russian hill)

Might be worth checking out.

Default a very very late update

So, a couple weeks after this post (and mostly being patient with craigslist),

I found a slightly modified 54cm Marin Venezia. It has Sora shifters and Sora brakes, but a 105 drivetrain. I tried it out and it fit well and rode nicely, so I ended up just getting it.

I've been biking to work regularly and I've been making use of most of the gears. The commute is a pretty pleasant ride. It's slightly uphill going home. Going to work is a breeze, which is kind of nice because I don't get there all sweaty. I still don't ride much in the rain. I'm kind of afraid of that. But it's been a great investment. I'm still adjusting to it, but I'm getting there.

A big thank you to everybody who replied in this thread. You all were a great great help.

Have you looked at this web site? It's written by a San Francisco bike commuter.

A little tip from a mountain biker: make sure that you maintain your bike properly by cleaning it once in a while it will make it last much longer. Buy the right lubrication types from a bicycle seller or off the net especially if you have a shock absorber. If you want to keep your chain perfect you will need to degrease it and lubricate it one to four times a year depending on how much use and weather you ride your bike in.

I have been an avid mountain biker since I was very little and used to cycle 22 km each day to and from school. Biking is fun sort of like head-fi once you are hooked you can't let go

EDIT: Just saw that you have had the bike for two weeks, after approximately four weeks depending on how much use it has been getting it is a good idea to tighten everything up like the chain, gears, breaks.
