I just upgraded my desktop from my old Mac G4 PowerMac to a new Mac Pro. I also upgraded my crappy Sony Vaio laptop to a Macbook Pro and picked up a iMac for the bedroom. So far 90% of my computer usage is my desktop, with the rest split between my Macbook Pro and iMac. I only use the laptop in my listening chair.

WOW!! That Mac Pro has to rock! Why did you get 4 graphics cards? I need to work where you do
Laptop man through and through. After several years, I just found it easier to keep one main computer and prefer to able to carry it around when I need it.
Desktops are much nicer for power/cost, also since I build my desktops it makes it much cheaper and easier to upgrade or customize. However, laptops are always going to be king for convenience and portability, even bigger 17"+ ones.
I've built and loved desktops in the past, but I'm on a laptop right now and my school is going to make me get a MacBook Pro with a lot of preinstalled software (CAD, Adobe Suite, etc.) on it. Looks like I'll stay a laptop guy for a while.

Yes, the Mac Pro is fantastic. I only ordered two video cards to run dual monitors a bit more efficiently than one card but for some reason Apple gave me two extra ones. Maybe some day I will run a crazy array of 8 30" monitors and use my computer from the next room.
72 GB of RAM
Dual ATI Radeon T-1000 SLI video cards
Six trillion terabyte 3.5" HDD
Mr. Smith aka Super Mega Awesome (t) Processor
Cold Fusion Cooling Unit
4" CRT
Bad Wolf ATX tower

I surely hope they didn't charge you double for 4 instead of 2...
