It would help if you indicated which model you have. On the 8830, the dollar sign is on the lower right, just to the left of the enter button and above the shift button.

I can't get 3rd party applications to work on my Blackberry 8120 . The e-mail service and blackberry browser work.

Hmm let me see... I've used 950 (old school!) -> 957 -> 7250 -> 7290 -> 8700R -> Pearl (8100) -> 8800 + Curve (8300) -> Curve with Wifi (8320) + Pearl 2 (8110) and currently using Pearl 2 with Wifi (8120) as a cell and 8820 for corporate emails. I have 8330 (Curve CDMA) in my drawer that I'm thinking of using instead of 8820.

And yes, I've actually used all of them for work email at one point or another.
