no, LCDs cannot display the maximum colour range that a CRT can.

the resolution on a CRT is flexible and can provide up to 1600 x 1200 and higher, whereas on an LCD the resolution is fixed within each monitor (native resolution), the resolution on an LCD can be changed, but if you are running it at a res other than its native resolution you will notice a drop in performance or quality.

my Sony GDM-FW900 CRT easily outshines my other LCDs in the area i am interested in, graphics/colours/gaming.

Sure, but LCDs can also go far beyond 1600x1200 - even within cheap consumer model ranges. I never suggested LCDs didn't have native resolutions
