I've mostly had Panasonic CRT TV's in the past.My current 28" CRT will probably need replacing soon. The thing that's always put me off LCD is the smearing with movement that always noticable IMO (which you don't get on CRT's).
This Panasonic claims to have minimised this by using 100hz scanning.Does this work?
Why not go to a store and see for yourself? The main spec on a LCD that you need to look for is response time: that's how much the full image is rendered in one frame. LCD manufacturers are always working on improving it, but AFAIK, plasma still does a better job (especially at higher screen sizes). Both LCDs and plasmas have gotten to be very good with HDTV though......standard TV doesn't seem as nice as the older, smaller CRTs: mainly because of size and scaling issues. I have a Panasonic plasma btw: a couple years old now and still going quite strong.
I just bought a Sony Bravia KDL-32V2500 to replace my dead Trinitron and it uses the "Advanced 100 Hz Digital Motion" technology. I can't say I've noticed any motion flicker/smearing. I'm really pleased with it especially as I picked it up for £579 at Amazon UK.
I researched TV's for ages before deciding on the Sony and have to say that picture quality is amazing, and that's just through the Freeview box.
My only complaint is that the built-in speakers are fairly average and need boosting. Other than that, I'm really happy with it.

As much as I love BRAVIA line, I do not recommend this set at all. I would go with Samsung for the 32" category. For 42" and above, nothing touch the BRAVIA 1080p. BTW, it's 120Hz not 100Hz.
