Default Any Audiophile Airsofters?

Being a co-founder/co-captain of a large Southern Florida Airsoft team, I'd like to hear if anyone else enjoys the sport?

Are airsoft guns a real sport or something? My friend had one, I thought it was just a toy.

Well there's a difference between the Wallmart type plastic guns and the actual guns from companies like Classic Army, ICS, G&P, and Systema. These run $300 to a few thousand for custom and top of the line models. The high-quality models (such as mine) are made entirely out of aircraft grade aluminum and steel and mimmick the size, weight, and material construction of the Real-Steel models.

It's a great sport, it's very exciting, and builds leadership skills. A lot of retired and returning soldiers play it as a way of keeping sharp and also to learn tactics that they never learned in basic training in a safe and non-life threatening scenario.

It's not like paintball though, being part of a MilSim team we drill regularly and our team's room clearing times rival that of a SWAT team but thats because we've been together longer than most SWAT teams.

There's also a difference between airsoft and "Backyard" airsoft (It is not regarded as part of our sport) which is usually played with cheap wallmart type guns and is frowned upon by the Airsoft community because of the irresponsible nature of playing with real-looking weapons in a public place. These "backyard" airsoft games have resulted in a few fatal shootings by police officers when they were confronted with what looked like a gun.

Oh and by the way the guns shoot 6mm Plastic BB's at 250-400 FPS and are safer than paintball as long as proper eye protection is used. Hurts less than paintball too.

Yep. I used to be really interested, then Head-Fi came into my life. I still have my Canadian OD BDU's running around - makes for a great costume come Halloween.

I'm a pistol guy - I like my KSC Japan and WA GBB guns.

Yeah, I still have one of those fully automatic Classic Army guns lying around somewhere, but I stopped playing awhile ago and even when I was sufficiently interested I had no intention of moving to a professional or semi-professional team of any sorts in the foreseeable future.

Ugh... one of the kids I babysit has a bunch of his friends with those.

He has one that apparently he saved up $400 for. I'd call him an idiot but then I realize how much I spend on audio stuff. I probably wouldn't mind it if I got a chance to use something other than the $15 Wal-mart gun...

Thumbs down

M0T0XGUY You should really get back into it, the sport's really gaining ground in the US (I'm not sure if you live here) and large OPs (Operations, or really large 50-300 person airsoft get togethers/scenario driven games) are starting to happen on a regular basis with professional businesses also organizing large games.

How old is the kid? I'd definitely say he's crazy unless he plays competitively or at least on some sort of a team. Please don't tell me he uses that in the backyard...

(Airsofter's are really cautious when it comes to kids with arisoft guns because every incident they cause is one step closer to our sport getting banned.)

I love airsoft, I've got a UHC 1911A1 pistol and a KSC Glock 19 (gas blowback)

I wish I could find a bunch of people to play airsoft with around Boston, but there's no big teams around here.

I never realized that Airsoft went any higher than the cheap/plastic level. I have real firearms, and also like to plink with my pneumatic pistol [Webley Nemesis]. A lot of people think of pellet guns in terms of "BB" guns for that matter. Thanks for the heads up!

I have a Western Arms 92FS Beretta "Perfect Version"

I only have a single mag for it though. Don't actually use it in any games.
