Any advice Regarding Timing of a Macbook Purchase?
I plan to buy my wife a new Macbook as a replacement to an old, slow PC she's been tolerating for years. If memory serves me correctly, there can be some bad times to make a Mac purchase (i.e., before a big release, or before they begin to standardize on an Intel processor). I did some searching, and can't seem to see any near-term milestones in the Apple world. Am I missing something? If I buy her something in the next few weeks, is that just before some Big, Super-secret Sale (BSS)? Thanks in advance for the help.
I think they only discount for Black Friday, correct me if I'm wrong. And that has already passed.. (I'm typing this on a Macbook bought this Black Friday.)

the way intel is pumping out faster chip sets i would not be surprised
if there are new notebooks at the mac world expo in january.not to
mention nvidia 's new video cards.
You should probably hold off until after MacWorld Expo in January. Rumor is that the laptop line is getting a redesign, along with lower prices. Even some noises about the long-rumored thin MacBook showing up.
If you want to check the rumors, pay a visit to MacOSrumors and AppleInsider. Sorry I don't have the URLs (am on an iPhone right now) but they should come right up in Google.
That being said, the current MacBook is very good. I have owned one since May andit does everything I need. I recommend picking up a refurb to save a few dollars (same warranty, looks like new) and use that cash to fully upgrade the RAM. OS X likes the extra memory and it speeds things up.

+1 on this - I upgraded my girlfriend's macbook from 512MB to 2GB and it's like a whole new computer... frankly we were not too impressed with it at 512, but now it's great.
Keep in mind the Macbook just underwent a big update last month (switch to a new motherboard and graphics chipset). There's virtually no chance it's going to get upgraded again in the very short term, so now's a perfect time to buy.
All kids of rumors are swirling about an update to the Macbook Pro line though, including a Macbook Pro smaller than the current 15" model. So if you're interested in the Pro line it might be worth waiting until the beginning of January and Macworld.

Thank you all. I will wait until after Macworld in January, check out the refurbs (both of my iPods were refurbs and were actually NOS--great deals), and soup up the RAM. Best regards, Bob
