I personally find Karl Jenkins´ ADIEMUS very enjoyable. Its fusion of tribal and classical is unique, and the chamber choir voices are nothing short of amazing.
Cheers! :580smile:

ok it's time for this thread to be "bumped" again, just wondering if anyone has heard anything new as of late? As for me, i recently acquired Cheb I Sabbah's "La Kahena" and let me tell you, this album imo is amazing, it's mostly female vocals with all kinds of influences (morrorco, amazigh culture, "middle eastern," north african etc) and is worth getting, take a look here on cheb i sabbah's site, you can listen to some clips and get a feel of the album and other works: http://www.chebisabbah.com/ don't sleep! i've also acquired some other stuff as well, but i feel like talking about this one in particular
Geoffrey Oreyma - Specially his debut record "Exile"
I bought it because of the tracks :
-Makambo
-Land of Anaka
Very nice and soothing, not to mention very sad, just like the memories I have of a beautiful French girl dancing across the floor as I heard them (It was her cd)....aww how I miss her :-(

However he now lives in France and has done so for many years, his music proves to have been popular there and "Exile" was produced by Brian Uno and Peter Gabriel I think...well at least they where involved.
The album is good though for me those two songs really stands out, but as you can see from my original post I have personal reasons :-)
I've been listening to the Soul Jazz Comp SJR Presents: Tropicalia! a lot lately and love it. It's got lots on it from the bigger names from Brazil in the 60's and 70's, as well as plenty of stuff I hadn't heard before. Great whether you want an introduction to Tropicalia, or even if you already know you like it.

Ha!!! Great minds think alike..I was just wondering about where this thread had got to...I got the latest Global Rhythm in the mail the other day and the free cd had a track by a Ugandan artist called Samite. At first I thought it was Geoffrey Oryema as they sound so alike..must be something to do with the type of music coming out of that part of Africa. Not much else jumped out at me though... I also have Live8 for Africa on DVD and Geoffrey sings a couple of tracks. On Land of Anaka he duets with Peter Gabriel who does say 'It's been a while Geoffrey, but I'll do my best' or words to that effect. Great stuff anyway.
Anyway just thought I'd throw in my 2c...Been on a dub kick lately, though might be coming out of it with lots of help from La Bottine...
