Amassakoul by Tinariwen - electric bluesy guitar rock by arab nomads in Mali
There is even a rap song collectively chanted. It is hard to describe but wonderful to hear. This is great stuff. For a better description, look this up on Amazon. And if you get it, be sure to check out the translation of lyrics.

If you are adventurous, get your ears on Genghis Blues. Tuvan (north of Mongolia) throat singing meets Delta blues. Xenophobes beware! This challenges some of my fundamental auditory assumptions and I love it! Should you enjoy this music I strongly recommend watching the video by the same name documenting the recently deceased American blind bluesman Paul Pena traveling around Tuva.[quoted/paraphrased from a previous post]

There is/was a very cool band out of Poland, called Atman , who are described as a "Polish experimental ethno-folk collective... Forging an aesthetic they dubbed "forest music" -- a sound created with acoustic instruments and Tibetan instruments..." An offshoot, and slightly weirder group is The Magic Carpathians .

Putumayo record label has some wonderful collections of "world" music that is available on search from Towerrecords.

Two more obscure favorites of mine are below:

La Votz Deus Anjos
by Balaguera

En Mana Kuoyo
by Ayub Ogada

NacMacFeegle - Since you already have so much to sift through I will only recommend 2 albums so please take that as my top two that never get old in my book.

The first is Le Mystère des Voix Bulgares, Vol. 3 a Bulgarian womans chior that stack chords like I have never heard. Very dark and very unique IMO.

The second is a very different flavor but it is almost like a Latin Jazz thing the band is Pepe & Bottle Blondes. That's my 2¢

putomayo is good for introducing "world music" to people who are new to that aspect of music, i like the fact that they give you artists for specific tastes so to speak
