Default recommend me a bowie album

Yep.

Recommend me your favorite David Bowie album. I only have the greatest hits album (double cd). I wanna pick up one soon, craving some more bowie stuff.

I really tend to prefer his earlier stuff i guess (from cd1) like ziggy stardust, space oddity, the 80's stuff so-so, and the 90's stuff is intersting, but not my cup of tea really. It's pretty cool trent reznor produced that stuff though.

Anyways please recommend : ]

Ziggy is the way to go, IMO. I have it on vinyl and also the anniversary CD release. Both are excellent... I bought the vinyl when the album was released initially, so it's fairly beat, unfortuantely.

Please disregard the "to be played at maximum volume" notation if you have a decent rig... it sounds a little scary if played very loud! Good stuff, though.

Edit: Close second choice would be "Let's Dance". A great album, and it pretty well showcases Stevie Ray Vaughan as an added bonus.

If you're looking for a solid rocker that doesn't stray too far into Germanic Eletronic Sturm und Drang, Ziggy Stardust is an ultra-safe bet.

I'd put Diamond Dogs right after that.

If you're still hungry after that, there's some terrific stuff on The Man Who Sold the World: "Black Country Rock" chugs along real good.

Scary Monsters is powerful -- great and gritty, but also pretty nasty. It's got justifiable art-rock pretensions (a phenomenal album but to taste).

"Wham, bam, thank ya Ma'am!" - Ziggy all the way!!

I'd like to put in a plug for "Hunky Dory", too. Less brittle and agressive than a lot of the later stuff, but it includes some damned fine tunes.

In terms of the early 70's, "Hunky Dory" (1971) may be even better than Ziggy Stardust. It is less of a concept album, but has some amazing songs on it. I also like Space oddity (1972) and "The Man Who Sold the World" (1970).

In 1977 there were a pair of albums with Eno producing: "Heroes" and "Low". Bowie re-invented himself with good results......

I'm going to be a splitter:

1. Station to Station
2. Heathen

I'd have to go with the Low Trilogy:

Low, Heroes, and Lodger

While your at the record store just buy Hunky Dory, Ziggy Stardust, and Station to Station as well.

You won't be disappointed unless you buy something from the 1980's. The 80's were a very bad decade for the Thin White Duke. A few people like "Let's Dance". I do not.

I guess "Scary Monsters" was released in 1980. That's one decent album in the 80's.

The 90's saw Bowie come back stronger after the 80's but in my opinion he has done nothing approaching the quality of his best work of the 70's.
