The Pineapple Thief
The Pineapple Thief....great new discovery by myself as of today...only have heard samples so far and a free download but I'm liking it so far. Progressive crossover rock in the same vein as PT(Porcupine Tree)...acoustics/strings...When I sample more I'll chime back. The following is a write up from Burning Shed: Specialist online music label and shop about the band:
"the band’s ‘bittersweet’ progressive sound has been nurtured over the past seven years over six studio albums. Initially a solo studio project by singer/songwriter Bruce Soord, the band evolved onto the stage as the ever faithful international fan base demanded it. In between recording sessions, the band has taken time out to play in front of thousands of fans, including sell out ‘invite only’ shows in the UK and festival appearances in Philadelphia, USA and Tilburg, Holland."
Anyone have a take on this bands work? I've ordered about 4 cds.
Back to Porcupine Tree's - Newly Remastered Lightbulb Sun w/extra cd...listening to "Buying New Soul" from the Remaster Bonus CD and I likeitalot!
*Peace*

I found about them a couple of months too. Personally, I wouldn't really compare them to Porcupine Tree because of what I have heard of PT. PT seems to delve into prog metal when they approach the climaxes of their songs while Pineapple Thief doesn't. Maybe that is why I enjoy Pineapple Thief. I have only heard Little Man and What We Have Sown by them. I would absolutely recommend them.
You obviously go to progarchives to find your music. Only someone from there would call them "Progressive crossover rock".

I fumble with labels, anyway...thanks for the info...I ordered up 4 cds(2 of which you mentioned)...also preordered the new cd(signed copy) and will let you know....I'm loving the samples though....I only compare the way the band seems to use keyboards/acoustics/strings and various sampled sounds...also mix is vaguely similar.
*cheers*

I have mentioned them a couple of times but sometimes it just takes time before the seed is sown. I have '10 Stories Down' and 'Variations on a Dream' and enjoy both regularly. The two tracks that got me in to them are 'Vapour Trails' and 'Remember Us', both off 'Variations...'
Enjoy

True Mercbuggy, it took me 9 years to find out about them. I picked up the entire back catalogue(all to be had anyway) and look forward to the new release in May: Tightly Unwound. I currently am waiting for the cds but currently have nothing but the free downloads/podcasts/samples from their websites player....loving freefall.

Pineapple Thief?
That reminds me of the joke about the three jungle explorers that get caught by the natives and are sent out to gather 10 pieces of their favorite fruit...

What a tropically flavoured Talent for comedy you have there

three explorers are captured by the natives and to go free they are taken back out into the jungle with instructions to gather ten pieces of their favorite fruit...
Upon returning, they are taken to seperate huts under guard and told they must wait til high moon to wait the elders judgement.
The moon rises and the first explorer is brought to the center of the village where the tribal elders await.
The man is brought before the chief and in front of him on a table lie the ten blueberries that he had picked earlier in the day.
The chief tells him to go free he must first insert each piece of fruit in his butt or he will be bound and cast into the fire.
The man starts laughing hysterically, to which the elders all look at each other in confusion and start grumbling....
The chief silences them and asks the man what he finds so amuzing?
