DOWNLOAD SONG : Listen to this Indian vocal...mesmerising!! Listen and post feedback
You probably wont understand what he is saying unless you are Indian. And most Indians have trouble understanding I dont understand what the lyrics mean but I dont care...I can "feel" what they mean and it is a powerful feeling...
Download the mp3 here : www.gurushankar.com/Music/Harivarasanam.mp3
Listen to it and listen to it a few times. It is not unpleasant and it is actually very mellow and soothing. Try not to focus on the language...just focus on the sound and the transitions in the vocals...powerful stuff!!
I want you to post about the effects of this song on you...how it made you feel...what it made you think of....
I feel sadness...
I feel like I am saying goodbye to someone I love...
I feel like I am closing the door on someone I love...
It just evokes powerful emotions in me...
Try it - please let me know what you think and how the song made you feel.
Cheers!

Yes but you're feeling those emotions right now even without the song, the song is just an amplifier, not a source
For me, I really love that Indian vocal style, but the music got really repetitive. Still a cool track.

Yeah - the meter to the song is repetitive but the lyrics are changing. Its a song that they sing to a certain god Ayyappa before they close the shrine for the night. Its a lullaby to the lord.
The temple for this god is on top of a mountain in Kerala (India). I have been to that temple several times without feeling any "connection" but a few years back when I was there and they sang this song before closing the door on of the shrine (for the night) I was overcome with emotion...cried...
I used to go just to keep my dad and grandpa happy...i've always been an atheist...
But that night shook my beliefs. I had been touched...
I will post another version of this song with a little more musical touch.
Cheers!

i hear more cultural sound than any love emotion, sort of folky. maybe affection, i cant tell without understanding the lyrics.
edit: ok, i read the above comment, i understand the theme a little more now. consecration music.

I really don't detect sadness, just beauty.
I get images of the birds eye view of a great landscape stretching off into the horizon.
Good times.

I listened to the song twice, and I had a strong sense of being known, comforted, consoled, refocused and revitalized. It was a very freeing experience. Is this song part of a larger collection? Can the collection be purchased online? If so, could you post a link to a source for it? Thanks for sharing this song with us. I very much appreciate the quality of the sound and the bitrate at which it is encoded. I'd like to hear more.

Hi.
I have more songs like this but its hard to find them from one album. You have to search around. I will upload the 256kbps mp3 rips and give you the links to a few more songs. I think this song was an itunes rip at 256 or 192 - I dont really care about going too high and anything under 128 is too poor for me and my Rio Karma.
More uploads coming along. Thank you for your feedback...its nice to know that everyone can have a different response to the same song. I think it has a lot to do with your mood, experiences in the past few days/weeks and general emotional bent.
My grandfather was a HUGE devotee of this particular god and he passed away last month. I feel closer to him when I listen to this and other songs...its sad and comforting...
Best

Yajks ! this song I didn't like.. It gave me bad concious for all the bad things I've done (don't missunderstand me,I'm not a criminal..yet ) and the times I've argued with my parents. But I have to admit his voice was pretty calming.

my favorite exotic vocals are from Enigma's "Return to Innocence"
I'd like to find the original recording of those vocals... I think Enigma got sued because they used them without permission.
Anyway, they are excellent.

that song rocks, something else you might like is the Siva Pacifica song called "Sole"
Another brilliant track is the song called Mahk Jchi from the album 500 nations put together by Robbie Roberstson.
Also try Rachid Taha's Barra Barra. It is on the Black Hawk Down soundtrack
