I don't really care, whatever is available. Preferably OSX since it's a bit easier to sync up with our macs, but I got a free xp desktop so I use that for storage now.

Well I like iTunes on Mac (on windows it is kinda crappy) for the database, but I keep most of my lossless on Windows because I prefer Foobar as my "high quality" player.

OSX (iTunes) or Linux (Amarok). I can't stand the Windows file system as I get OCD about defragmenting, and NTFS just gets annoying as hell with that.

Just get an auto defragger like O&O defrag and never worry about it again!

I am running Windows, but I am thinking about picking up a Macbook next year. It would take a long time to get used to though, I have used other people's Macs and I just get really confused.

PC (Linux) for the win. Can you even upgrade HDD space on macs without paying bananas for it? I'm not meaning external storage drives here.
But, every system (Macs, PCs / macos, linux, windows) has the same basic principles that a music library computer needs:
- Powerful organizer/player (iTunes, Amarok, Rhythmbox, Winamp, foobar, you name it)
- easy possibilities to backup the files (macs & linux can make automatical backups hourly/daily/weekly/monthly -- windows systems could use some external backup hdds with their easy-to-use one-button solutions)
- get out nice sound (digitally assuming. Macs have USB and SPDIF outs, PCs can have everything their builder wants).
So it's pretty much up to preference

And I should believe everything a company's commercial tells me? Come on, now....
Mac OS has been running on PC architecture for a number of years, when they dropped PPC. You can run XP or Linux on a Mac, and you can run Mac OS (with a little tweaking) on a non-Mac PC. So tell me, how is a Mac not a PC? Apple just has excellent marketing that can make you believe that their systems run on fairy pixie dust, if they wanted.
