I have set up an appreciation thread of the 801 for the impression sharing anticipating quite a few reviews may come out because of the shipment of the batch#1. Also one of the aims of the thread was to consolidate the impressions together so that all headfier may easily find the impressions of the 801. Somehow the thread is not successful.

There are other threads as well and the impressions of the 801 is pretty scattered among different threads. The appreciation thread should have pointed out some other threads as well.

This thread should be more related to the pre-order issue as Edwood pointed out rightly in one of his previous posts. However, quite a few impressions has been posted here and they should be helpful.

It seems to me that not that many people have received their units. I've voiced out few times here asking Fang to inform us the shipping status but received little response so far.

There are a few things that I'm certain:
1. The SQ of 801 is very good among the DAPs.
2. There are quite a few programming to be done for the 801 and it's worth the waiting. (see the debug thread)
3. Batch 1 shipping is not complete (I'm in the first batch). My friend and I've been waiting for a few months already.
4. I can see that Fang is progressing though slowly.
5. It's better to have a device as bug free as possible rather than to reply on the future firmware update as long as the product will ship.
6. It would be great if Fang may post the shipment of orders before a certain date is complete. In this case we may help checking if the problem lies on the shipment company

My 2 cents.

I pre-ordered mid-June, and haven't received any notification either.
I do live in Europe, that might have something to do with it.

Regarding traveling with the HM-801. The charger power supply is simply too massive and heavy for light traveling, especially for those doing only carry on baggage.

I know it's great to have a charger that is as quiet and stable power as the one that is used now, but how about a dedicated travel battery charger like ones commonly available for smart phones?

Perhaps something like this, but with maybe a protective hinged door that covers the battery. Obviously it would be larger than the one pictured, but you get the idea. Basically, it needs to be safe for charging, but doesn't necessarily need to worry about electrical noise generation.

Hi Ed,

Have you posted your impression on the 801 yet? A few of us is eager to know if the 801 broadens the gap between the JH13pro and the ES3X or not.

Probably we need to wait for the completion of the shipment of the 1st batch first.

Last I heard was late November, but I guess that depends on a lot of things.

After owning my HiFiMAN for a month, I can still say that it is sonic bliss.

I am very, very happy with the sound quality.

Do realize that this is not a perfect product (except for sound, IMHO).

Not to start the vinyl vs digital debate (please for the love of God, don't fight that issue here), but this player reminds me a bit more of a turntable in that there is a lot more hassle involved in playing tracks. But for me, it's worth the time and trouble.

If you need a player with stylish looks or a slick interface go for an IPOD or some other big name player.

But, if you want the best sound possible out of a portable, then the HiFiMAN is for you and it will be worth the hassle.

Fang is working on the firmware, and maybe some day he can make most people happy with the firmware (Fang, you will never make everyone happy, that's just the way it is).

The unit itself is big, boxy, and not as refined as an IPOD, but the sound is very much above the competition.

I have a Trekstor Vibes (my work player) with Ultimate Ears Super Fi 5 Pro, A D2 (now used mostly for video) and 3 IPODS. I don't touch the IPODS except for the DMR music and video that I can not move over to another player.

I use Senn HD555 HiFiMAN and Senn HD600 cans with the Tube Amp.

Nothing I own, except my Marantz 67SE with a tube amp, sounds close to the HiFiMAN. The HiFiMAN's line out to the tube amp (little country III for those who want to know), sounds better than the Marantz and the LCIII.

Though it cost a lot of money and a fight with my wife (that's another story), the HiFiMAN has been worth it for me. I love my HiFiMAN.

so whats the current status ?? i m your big supporter how ever even i have to say i m getting annoyed ??

stop sending units to the reviewer around the world !! or flying around promote the unit ! your customer is your best reviewer !! u really dont need any more media exposure if the production just wont catch up and its been delay and delay ~ every day i m hoping the unit show up in the mail box and every day its a disappointment ! it would be sad for a business to have their supporter turn critic.

there is fine line between perfection and project failure! u need to set your benchmark date for your project! u do owe ur customer obligation to full fill after all they have made the payment and patiently waiting ?

chill pill r just not going to cut it for me now. time over time i try to visualize whats happening in your factory and reasoning but this is taking too long. action r louder than promise~ other wise its all just bubble.
