Thanks for info, <300g is a good target for most any portable sized devices IMO.

So, when can you start shipping HM-801?
We all are looking forward to receive it!

I guess I will have to get a order in soon. Is there anyway we can see some pictures of the user interface? That is what I have been curious about.

USB digital output?
I saw two USB ports in HifiMAN's (bottom panel) photos. Is it true that one is for input and the other is for output (USB digital output)? Or both of them are for input? Can HifiMAN output digital signal? Thank you.

We will try to finish manufacturing in next week, and ship them out as soon as possible. It is the first batch product so that we need some good luck to pass QC in time.

Will take pictures of the user interface in the next two or three days.

One for data exchange and one for USB DAC. HiFiMAN do not have to output digital signal, and HiFiMAN is a decent DAC itself (blow away some desktop DAC below 1000usd). I can not understand why people do not want to use the internal PCM1704 DAC, and try to use the digital out to connect to another portable DAC (normally a cheap Wolfson WM8740 DAC inside).

Hi, Nankai
Thank you for your sincere answer.
When we receive it and listen to the sound from HM-801, we may feel that we don't need an external DAC.
I expect so.

I can`t either, the whole point for me is to use the HM-801 as the ultimate stand alone portable player. The ability to be used as a USB DAC is a fantastic bonus.

Please do not ASSUME something before you see/know it
Calm down, Nankai. I appreciate your answer and respect you and your product. However, why do you ASSUME that I am using HifiMan w/ portable/cheap DAC? I plan to use it mainly as portable (same as you Mr. Turkish Hamster), but occasionally as DAC or digital-outputs to my full-sized Dac/headamp/Pre-amp. I was asking the possibility here but not comparing anything. Since you comment on the Dac part, I can tell you this: my full-sized DAC has been compared to Benchmark DAC 1 and Lavry DA-10; it uses PCM2707/AD1852/Discrete headamp. And it's not just chips that affect the sound; you know this better than me right? I understand the pressure you face as a small business owner. However, please be respectable and make only factual statements; this is a virtue that we miss these days.

I don't think they will make huge difference comparing to HM-801. This is just my opinion after we did a comprehensive test between different DACs.

Thank you
This ("This is just my opinion") is what I called "factual statement", esp. when it was made by the seller. Time will tell.
