this is killing me! My entire library is in AIFF and I'll need to transcode a fair amount to FLAC to really use this player but heard it at CanJAm and know it sounds stellar!

My 3ghz Q6600 would be happy to help you (and anyone else) transcode, if it wasn't such a pain in the butt to transcode other people's stuff.

Has anyone compared this to an Imod+amp? Is it on par, better, almost as good?

Wow. The polished anodized aluminum finish turned out great. Matches the painted steel "GanQi Bay" cover really well.

Actually front panel is Aluminium, but back panel is Steel.
