that will depend on what format of wav file you have.
if it is lossless wav files, that should sound pretty much exactly as a cd.
although some magazine reviewers at stereophile, hifi, as well as absolute sound have prefer lossless files on hard disk over stock cd. so many of these articles that a simple google will list enough to read.
back to wadia i170 sound with ipod loaded with apple lossless files.
well, that is what i listen to and i do not hear anything different over my denon reference cd player playing the same tracks.

hey drew,
why don't you recommend some coaxial cables over the stock version of the wadia i170 transport.
great if one of these have flexible cords/wiring.
thanks

I use our Blue Dragon with Nextgen WBT Silver RCAs. I'm a big fan of silver based cables. I love speed and detail. Here is a Link to our digital cables. The Blue Dragon is tough to beat for the price. I also use a Grace m902 Headphone amp/dac with the Wadia.

How does the power supply for this work? Is there some kind of external unit that converts AC to DC? If so, is it dual voltage? Or does one have to buy the unit for specific voltage/Hz conditions in one's home country?

It is a switching external power supply. All you need is an adapter.

drew,
how much are those silver RCAs by themselves?
Something like $90 each?
also, does the silver change color over time.
almost all of my 1980's silver RCAs are darken and some cannot be repaired.

Correct they are not cheap. The WBTs so far have not changed color for me. The Eichmann and Cardas SLVR do. But Silver Oxide is not a poor conductor like copper oxide. The conductivity of silver oxide is higher than silver itself. I use Deoxit and Progold once a yr on my connectors.
