Yup. And so as not to misslead, we can make meaningful measurements of the DAC but have to be in higher bitrate/depth modes to get the needed resolution and noise floor.

Has some one removed or censured this thread? I made a post which is now gone. What gives?

There was an outage recently on head-fi that deleted some posts. Jude explained it in the members lounge.

Read the stickies at the top of each forum. There was an outage and data loss.

Tyll,
Will the Output Stage on the new standalone Max Dac be Discrete or Op-amp.?

Ah! You read it. I will post again as I believe a new amp is coming from Headroom using discrete components and forgoing the op amp route.

Hey everyone, Cool, finally a balanced dac. I suppose it will be able to convert computer signals to balanced signals? Is this the first of its kind?
Greetings, Anouk,

Not the first balanced DAC with a USB input, certainly, but the first from HeadRoom, and the first I know of to use this chipset.

Wrong! With so many really good parts out there it would be insane (IMHO) to try to build anything but the most extreme high end stuff with discrete components. Since we're not talking about a $5000+ Amp, iI think state of the art ICs are the efficient solution.
PS Audiophile myth number 6532A: it has to be discrete or it won't sound any good. Ba - lo - nee, there's some AMAZING parts out there these days.
