For me they are equally important.

For me the jump from a Sennheiser 595 to 650 was the largest shift in shound I experienced, and this was while using the MicroAmp.

They are complementary.

I had Sennheiser HD580s driven by the analog output of a computer through my McCormack amp. It sounded quite good, even from on board sound.

I added the Micro DAC, and it was a giant leap forward. I had become accustomed to the "good enough for computer audio" sound I had been getting, but the addition of the DAC put my PC as a source on par with my Cambridge CD player (said player is now also attached to the Micro, and sounds better that way).

Then I got my HD650s, and discovered just how good the Micro DAC actually is.

I'm now looking to have my McCormack upgraded, and may step up to the latest HR DAC (I have the older version of the Micro).

After that, I'll need to step up to the HD800.

After that, I'll be moving into a tent in my backyard when my wife sees the bill.

Can I run all this stuff off a car battery?

You really had me going there since I'd be experiencing the same thing.

When the DPS came for my Ultra Micro Stack, I reached home to be greeted by a threat from my wife and son. They said they both agreed that if I had another set of cans in the box, they'd shun me for a week!

Alone in my room, lights off, tubes aglow and music flowing, I discovered something. No matter how much hi-end gear I put between the recording and my ears, its the music that moved me to tears. Less is always more.
