I sold the HR Milllett over a year ago. I've found that for headphones I prefer the clean sound of transistors to the fun of tubes.
I only had the stock tubes.

Fell asleep last night in my chair listening to Bob Marley..the 12AE6A seems like a much more pleasant sound to ears.
The 12Fk6 was nice, but was muddy for the bass and didnt extend as deep. Did seem to bring the highs a tad more forward.
I havent tried 12FM6 yet..thinking it will to dark, since this is known as the warm setup.

Congrats!
The HR Millet amp is a very cool product and I really like the specs. I did have a chance to hear it at a meet and liked it. Cool stuff and a good investment for the audiophile. I love the compact size too. Very nice.

Glad you're enjoying the amp, Dom. It would be interesting if you could get your hands on a DAC1.

Im using my modded Zhaolu and Al's Lavry ...switching between the two.
The Zhaolu has more bass, plain and simple...however the lavry has more detail, plain and simple hehe.
The bass is for sure controlled. However it sounds to be bottled up, with the 12FK6 the bass was more of a mid range tap instead of a deep tone.
I was listening to Rush Malignant Narcissisim, where Neil Peart has that 8min drum solo. The impact seem to distort at times....the tube switch got the bass extended and more pleasing to a 650 user.

well...for ****s and giggles...i figured i got a good overall listen to the tubes...i decided to give the 12FK6 another listen.
Its seems alittle different to my ears, but very subtle...seems alittle less grainy, mids are certain alittle more recessed then the 12AE6A.
Wondering what the best tubes for the millet is...or whats is said to be the best and whats the sound signature like?

I was wondering something also...when you use the tube switch, does it set the voltage differently for each tube?
If so, how much power is dedicated to each selection of the switch?

Dom,
If I understand things correctly the switch is to adjust the bias for the different tube types and merely selects a different resistor value in the circuit.

So they all have the same amount of voltage going to it no matter which tube correct? Im assuming its 12v for all 3.

Quoting from a different thread (I didn't want to thread jack). A new (used) HR Millet Hybrid and a WA6 SE! You have an embarrassment of riches! I know there's a notable price difference between the two amps new, but how do the two compare? Are you still feeling like the HR's base is still too muddled?

There is noticeable amount of power difference between the two. To my ears the Millet is brighter, alittle more detail, while the woo is alittle more powerful and smoother. The mids are some what more pronounced on the Millet. However the impact/slam of the mid/low is much better on the Woo.
All in all, the millet is a tad more detail...the woo is more power and lush sounding.
Btw...the woo isnt mine =) just the HR..

Just noticing something....some of the tubes seem to be brighter then others...is this just cause the bias setting or the sign the tubes are going?

Another thing i noticed....Tyll informed me that this is the VERY FIRST one made.
Not only that...but if you look online for the millett's manual...you will see a pic of my amp =) There is only 1 with the panel spelled Millet instead of Millett.

Nice piece of history.
I felt bad when I found out that I had sold off the first V3 Darth Beyer made. abs@nilenet.com researched them after I traded them for his Stax SR-Lambda Pro.
