Cool ideas. A powered speaker that doesn't distort and sound irritating would be great, but I don't see HeadRoom competing with those crappy $49 docks at the china-mart checkout counter any time soon. Guess we all have to suffer through more head-unfi backyard parties.
The three main problems I have with portable gear is (1) cabling, (2) battery housing/cabling, and (3) casing the whole thing. For example, it would be cool if you had a mini-to-mini connector designed specifically to connect the MicroDac output to the MicroAmp input that sat really close to the case, like two right angle connectors spaced perfectly apart. Another cool thing would be a decent right-angle optical cable. I'd like to see these kinds of helpful finishing touches on all your new portable lines. Innovative cases for all your new portable products, like your bag for the micro amp/stack, would also be really cool, especially if you had custom wiring solutions to keep things neat and tidy.

The problem is, we can't get the good ones, and it's not worth carrying the others.

We are working towards another web revision, but it's probably years away. Technically making new templates is fairly straightforward, but the complexity of really understanding what you want to do and why is an enourmous corporate learning and planning adventure. It's not simple or easy. I do see your point, however, we look at some sights and drool at the number of programmer and art departmant hours they can afford.

Go to our website, make an account, and then go to "My Acount", and the newsletter preference is one of the options.

[senny-ftw]I'd like a Micro amp with in-built USB DAC - two boxes is too many. There's gotta be a way![/quote]
Yeah, the new Micro Portable will be just that. It's due out in a few months.

We checked into that but there's got to be some slack because they mold both ends at the same time. The current 4 inch mini-is as short as they could make.

We found this one type that had a very small connector and they optical cable itself easily bent, but the guy couldn't get them any more, and we couldn't find them elsewhere.

We're going to start some serious talks about bags soon. Economically, it's a very serious problem. When you make bags the way we do, the list price is at least double what they would expect to pay for a camer bag. Our bags would last 10 times longer because the materials and workmanship is so much better, but people just don't compute a bag in their head that way. Consequently, we force ourselve to not make our normal margin on the bags, and end up not being to happy about bag developing.
W'ere going to be looking at it pretty seriously here soon.

Put Headroom's magazine ads on your website too
I was reading "Five Generations at 30,000 Feet" in the July Stereophile, and thought it was awesome. If someone doesn't read Stereophile (although I was probably the last holdout), they should still be able to read Tyll's awesome adcopy online.

Bring back Headroom's "Recommended Gear" page
Remember the "recommended gear" page on your website where you used to recommend other associated gear that you didn't sell yourselves? I'm sure a whole bunch of Panasonic 570's & Sangean radios were sold because of you guys.
The OQO tablet/laptop in your Desktop Portable ad reminded me of that. I love that kind of stuff.

this would be very very nice! I have seen some DIY projects posted here at Head-Fi.

A little buried, and not too fancy, but it's there.
