How about a Micro Power Supply for that Micro Ultra setup?
It only needs to be able to power two Micro modules.
Then a nice triple combo package could be sold from which the AC power-supplies are omitted. An upgrade to the quality and a saving of $200 at the same time.
so glad to see someone bringing this topic up again.
I think they are actually working on one. haven't heard anything in awhile but some months back I spoke to Mike, I think it was, about it. he spoke as if they looked into it for the original MicroStack but space was a big issue. he was glad I brought it up and was gonna look or start back on the design of it.
there so needs to be one for the new Micro line if it would make a significant difference like the Desktop Power Supply.

Yeah, thanks for bringing it up again; haven't thought this through in a little while. Nose is right, it's a space issue. But my recent experience with the B&o ICE switching amp, and discussions with Pete Millett about switching supplies has me believing that this is a very good solution for all but the highest fidelity audio gear. IMHO, of course.
I would think we could find switching supplies that meet the form factor and power requirements that would fit in the Micro enclosure. I'll think about it. Thanks.
Carry more brands of headphone replacement cables.

that's kind of funny, I haven't looked at this thread, and just 1 hour ago I was looking at my micro stack and thought,"hey, I wonder if they could make a power supply like the dps in a micro enclosure?" then I came here to ask.........
not the only one.

Regarding the 2007 Micro DAC, I see it as a big improvement over the previous model since the battery power option has been removed. However, since this DAC is not aimed at portable use, I would think it could (should?) be larger and offer standard RCA outs rather than just a mini line out, since people with pretty much any home amp besides the Micro Amp would be connecting via RCA cables.
Besides that, perhaps a USB vs. non-USB option would be nice. I personally would have no use for the USB input and as such would not want it there. The $100 price increase over the pre-2007 model makes it far less attractive nowadays, and I think pushes most potential buyers to plasticky and knob-laiden gadgets like the E-MU 0404 and cheap sweat-shop produced DACs (Zhaolu, Zero, etc.) costing half the price and even less and getting constant attention here on Head-Fi.
In my own case, I still lack a decent source for my computer-based lossless music, and nothing within a "reasonable" price range seems to fit the bill (when striking knobby plastic things and Chinese products sold through outlets such as eBay from the list). I sincerely wish that HeadRoom offered an affordable DAC designed for stationary home use. Or, the current MicroDAC could just use RCA outputs rather than the stero mini jack and cost $299--I'd buy one for sure.
I think that would be a cool toy, and a big seller. I'm assuming the power supply would not fit in the standard micro case, but perhaps would work as a double tall (as opposed to a double wide!). It would need two plug in for a DAC and amp.
You just can't have enough aluminum on your desk!

Tyll, can you talk to us a little bit about Power Supplies?
I'm really interested in what's inside the $400 DPS. the advantages it has over these small blue Toroidal transformers that I see inside other Amp's and DPS. like what you see in the RSA HR2 and XP7 or the Gilmore Lite or GS-1. then how the HR Wall Supply and new Astrodyne compare to these. what could possibly be done with a switching supply inside a Micro enclosure that could improve upon the Astrodyne. and maybe making the sound quality smoother like with the $400 DPS.

double tall would sound cool to me too! but that would mean another enclosure they would have to have made. this may not be a good option for HR. maybe if there was a way they could combine two units and open it up between them, I dunno.. even if only one Micro DPS supplied one unit would be cool with me. it would mean buying two for both the Amp and DAC but whatever would bring the best impovements over a wall supply and closer to the $400 DPS. which may be the $400 DPS itself.
