Hey all -
This is the Darrin that Tyll mentioned above... I'll be looking out for your comments on test results and will try to resolve any concerns. The W5000s will get looked at the next time I get to the test-bench.

I'm still working on re-tests and confirming accurate response plots for all the headphones(so, some of the posted graphs will be getting replaced). However, if you have a discrepancy with a plot please post your concern and I can take a closer look.

Cheers -
Darrin

Under Select up to 4 Headphones on the measurement page, there should be an extra slot shown in glittering gold with a sparkling down arrow and an embedded audio file playing a clip of the 2001 space odyssey theme reserved for only the HD800. I'm surprised no one caught that yet.

Default W5000 retests

I retested the response for the ATH W5000... still has that low end roll off. They have a horrible fit. I tried pretty hard to get a good, natural placement. The only way I can somewhat assist the low end is to tighten a velcro band around the cans (which doesn't truly simulate their normal fit on your head).

As I was playing with them I also noticed a horrible resonance in the metal frame; since the frame is coupled to the cans it is very noticeable... no bueno! Personally, I think the mechanical design of the frame and fit for these headphones is sh!#$y

Man, it's been a couple years since I had the W5000, and I'd forgotten that I did notice that horrible resonance you mention! In fact it was so bad that when I paused the CD player in the middle of playing music (moderately loud) I could hear a faint metallic ringing for around 0.5-1 seconds afterwards (from the headband, not ringing in my ears).

Your graph looks like exactly what I was hearing. I had to press the cups HARD against my face (and keep them there) - probably even much more than the force of the velcro band - to get what I felt was a decent frequency response.

I agree with your observations, these were not the headphones for me
Too bad, because they probably have very very nice drivers, and the ebony cups are very pretty.

Well you are being quite ridiculous about this, considering it's sitting right there:

I jist saw that the other inear had the isolation standing in the menu at the right....
Sorry my bad, and thanks

Now i also understand why some people say that Etys has a isolation of 45 instead of the normal 28-32 DB, it is a matter of frequence...

I think we need to be able to auto scale the impedance scale so that you can see the features on the curve for low impedance headphones.
