Default Dear Headroom.

All starts with this....

Something is deadly wrong......

Hi, first of all I need to say that I am one of your happy customers.

I personally own Headroom Micro DAC with desktop module, and I bought my DT880 and SR225 from you guys. And I must say I am very satisfied with these headphones and the amp.

I recently bought a bunch of headphone pads to replace (HD650, K701 and my DTs) and some of them were Beyerdynamic pads for my DT880 and 990.

Well, according to your site, those pads are for DT770 (2005), but you guys mention that those pads will be fit for 880/990. So I bought them as replacement pads for my DT880/990.

Well, they fit well, but they did not work fine as you guys said.

You guys probably have some DT880s for demo. I assume they still have original stock pads. Listen to them for a while (nice sound indeed). Now, take off those stock pads and put DT770 pads (the model number is EDT 770v)

Now listen to the DT880s again. I am completely 100% sure that you will hear a massive bass and overall muddy sound. Yes, those pads will completely change the sound signature of DT880s. With these pads, DT880s become bass monster, even bassier than DT990 and (god forbid) D5000. So, the obvious conclusion is that those replacement pads never can be the replacement pads for DT880/990. I meticulously checked the original stock pads, and found out there is thick, strong damping material inside of the replacement pads.

So, what did I need to do? I searched the internet, and eventually found out that there are two kinds of replacement pads.

One is EDT 770v, which is what you guys are selling, and the other is EDT 990v, the true replacement pads for DT880/990. Currently, looks like very few vendors ever sell EDT 990v in the United States. I actually found only one on the internet, named Audio Proz (By the way these guys are dishonest. They only accept money and check because their credit card machine is broken. LOL, I checked with their name and found out their credit card machine is always broken ) So I ordered these 990v.

Today they have arrived. Now I can confidently saying that 990v are the right replacement pads for the DT880/990. I double checked with 770v I bought from you guys, and yes, they are completely different.

Here are two suggestions.
1) On the description of the these DT770 pads on your website ( beyerdynamic DT770 Cushions @ HeadRoom - Right Between Your Ears ) It would be great to add some comments that these pads are not for DT880/990 pads, and they will change the sound signature of the headphones.

2) But the best thing would be.... If you guys can sell EDT 990v, It would be fantastic. I personally do not want to deal with some unknown local dealer who refuses to take credit cards.

Thank you for reading this!

This was also discussed not too long ago here. The right pads are readily available here in Europe, but I don't know about general availability in the USA.

Woo, this never appeared on my search result!

In USA, it seems only Beyer USA and some vendors are selling 990v. Yes, I saw a lot of Europe online resellers are selling 990v.

They used to be sold at B&H (see here) as well. Funny that beyerdynamic-usa only seems to sell the leather, pleather and gel ear pads in that market via their web site.

Hopefully HeadRoom will manage to supply these as well, as the the DT880/990 represent a noteworthy chunk of the Hi-Fi headphone market.

I've already asked them before try Audio Proz, and their answer was 'no' :/

Yep, DT880s are quite famous phones and I think they deserve same treatment as K701 and HD650.

I also wonder if Headroom can sell the replacement pads for Denon D2000/5000.
