Quick Q before I drop in the money order tomorrow morning:
Is the 3.5mm to 6.3mm adapter that Ultrasone includes still compatible with the new cable plug? Ultrasone also says it's a screw on... does that still apply?

If it turns out the Ultrasone one is no longer compatible, would this be a good 3.5mm to 1/4" adapter?

That adapter should be fine.

Hey Steve,

I am sending your 780s off in the morning. I got to compare yours to a new set I also finished today. Its was neat to hear the differences in yours (burned in) and the brand new ones I did. I was pretty amazed at how much better yours sounded as your drivers are broken in. Obviously the burn in period if very significant for these HFI780s. The thing that stuck out the most between the 2 was how unrelaxed, honky and somewhat tinny the new ones sounded COMPARED to yours (its all relevant). Keep in mind that both had the 18G cable new installed when I was comparing them. I am sure the new one will eventually catch up to yours and they will both sound exactly the same. That driver needs to be softened up before its going to sound like is suppose to sound. Also once your cable gets about 80 or so hours on it, it will also sound a bit better. Anyhow I do hope its what you expect it to be and it competes with your E9.

HeadphoneAddict, thanks for the very detailed reviews on what looks like an amazing headphone.

Would you mind doing a very short comparison of the d2000 vs the ALO-780?

I am wondering the differences in bass and detail mostly.

Do the 780's have as much bass as the d2000?

I'll try to revisit that in the next few days, but I haven't listened to the D2000 since the first few days of burning in my HFI780, there hasn't been a need to.

Wow. I have been letting these continue to burn-in since Monday evening, after I got them with new 18G Cryo Jenna Labs cable. I hadn't picked them up since last night, to not get too acclimated to the sound.

I have about 300 hours on the drivers now, and 50 hours on the 18G Cryo Jenna Labs re-cable. I don't know if the further refinements are from the hours on the cable, or the extra hours on the drivers (the demo set with Vampire wire was 90% done with burn-in by 180 hours and by 250 hours were not changing. These continue to get smoother and have a certain je ne sais quoi to them.

So, this means leaving them running another 24 hours and reporting back.

Thanks for the fast turn-a-round. I certainly am looking forward to what I get back. I really enjoyed my stock one before and this can only be better and even more near the UE9s.

Thanks again.

I guess the "second pair" must be mine, since I got your shipping notice. I also found out that my MAD HD200 amp is shipping today as well, so I'll have two components to break in! Thanks for the quick turn on the order.

I also got my shipping notice. Wonder how that happened. Hope you enjoy them and give them at least 200 hours burn-in.

One more question.

Is the headband on the 780 the same as the edition 9?

If not, is the edition 9 more comfortable?
