This may not be an appropriate forum to ask a question concerning the "Moon Audio's Black Dragon" re-cable of the Ultrasone Edition 9 unless you are thinking or ordering the Edition 9 from ALO since this is an ALO Sponsored forum and thread.

Do you think so?

Apologies for my ignorance and n00biness

Yes *erhhM* my true intention was to ask how the Ed 9 would sound like after being recabled with whatever; in this case by ALO compared to stock Ed9 and the modded 780

No worries, that is a logical question to ask how they compare to one another.

The re cable is the same as the ones being done to the HFI780s, just on the better Edition9's.

Thanks

Ken

I have had my pair of ALO Modified Ultrasone HFI-780's With 18AWG Cryo cable for around two weeks now.

These cans in my opinion should come with a health warning.

After enduring days of a clamping force that would not go amiss in a gangster movie I ended up going to see my doctor.

A fairly deep ridge formed on the top part of my head where the headband rests.

My doctor told me it was due to the the pressure exerted on my skull from the headphones.

I have not worn them for around 3 days now and thankfully my head is feeling a little better.

I would also like to add this post is in no way directed at ALO, im merely giving you my experience with these cans.

How does a recabled Edition 9 sound compared to a stock Grado GS 1000?Does the GS 1000 have a wider sound stage??

Pardon my question, but do you happen to own a large head?

I've only had about ~1 hour worth of listening with any Ultrasone headphone in my life and it was with the 780's a month and a half ago. It didn't give much clamping force in my opinion: secure enough for me to bob my head. If you ask me, I already have a permanent ridge from wearing glasses.

For you, is the clamping force comparable to say, swimming goggles clamping force to the eye ridges?

When I first received my 780s, the clamping force was indeed quite extreme. I let the headphones stretch out over a box and it's no longer a problem.

I just picked up a set of these and they are quite good headphones. They have a very big upfront sound with a lot of detail. They remind me of Grado headphones. When I received them I hooked them up to my LaRocco Pocket Reference amp and my IPOD connected with a custom ALO LOD that is made from the same wire just thinner and the system has a lot of synergy. The first CD I listened to was Dose by Gov't Mule which is a very good recording and the sound blew me away. Things sounded very clear with a huge amount of detail. These headphones rock!!

I just got these phones yesterday from a fellow head-fier and I gotta say it: they are awesome!!! They are my first full sized cans and I am very pleased to have purchased them. I am using it w/ my Pico and though I feel a full-sized amp is in order, the Pico drives them fine in the meantime. Even movies sound great in them!

็็Hi Guys,

If I couldn't stand the pressure on my head and ears from AKG K701 , Can I survive from the pressure from this headphone ?

I bought Ken's HD600 and upgrade cable and I know how good his cable is. Now I'm looking for something brighter than HD600. Unfortunately K701 is not for me.

Next to the K501's, the K701's are the most comfortable can I've owned from the standpoint of long-term listening (multiple hours at a sitting). 780's are definitely a head clamp, so if you have trouble with the K701, don't even bother with the 780's.

Put a fairly large pillow between them, while not in use. It will help, but like burn-in, it takes a while to get an improvement.

Just to let you know, the headband is bendable.

That's good to know - a lot of us are afraid to hurt them by stretching them out. Does this apply to the Edition 9, or the older headphones like HFI-700DVD?
