Ultrasone Edition 9 Mods and Re Cable
I have been getting a number of inquires about the 22AWG and 18AWG headphone cables I am making. I want folks to be informed when deciding on the 2 types. additionally I recently received a small shipment of Edition 9s from Ultrasone, and have a larger order due to arrive by the end of the month. Since ALO is a authorized Ultrasone dealer I am able to modify and re cable these headphones bought from me new. Here is a photo of the 22AWG and 18AWG wired cables to give you a idea of the size difference. Both terminated to a mini plug. Also the larger 18AWG if you want a mini plug termination your only option is the Canare F12 mini plug. Sorry but the cable is just too fat to fit into any other mini plug. The Canare has a wide barrel and even the we have to lathe out the collar of the plug to accommodate the girth of the 4 wires.

A few words about the Edition 9's. First off these are my all time favorite headphone by a wide margin. The E9s fold into a small portable ball that I simply put into a cloth pouch that then lives in my backpack shoulder bag when I am on the move. A full on audiophile gem of a headphone that also doubles for a full size portable, with excellent isolation and comfort. The sound of the headphone is lush and detailed exhibiting strong authority in its presence. If your into Rock, Hip-Hop, Jazz, Electronica, Down beat, Metal, and Dr. Dre like my friend Tony , then the E9 is about as compelling as a headphone you can find. The price of the E9 is pretty steep but if your looking for the ultimate closed back phone and want the madness of spending and searching for the perfect closed portable headphone then the E9 fits the bill. Email me for quotes and any questions - audiolineout@gmail.com
UPDATE: New ALO SXC Cryo recable
Thanks
Ken

Is it detachable?

Hey Tunes,
I would read the HFI-780 thread here
Ultrasone HFI780 ALO Mod
The E9 is similar to the HFI-780 only better. The cable is not detachable. Email me if your really interested on pricing.

Hi Jeremy1234
First I would scan the link in the first post of this thread. The HFI780 mod is the same as the one I am performing on the E9. I also want to stress that the smaller 22AWG wire is also nice with the E9 as it will allow the headphone to remain small and portable.
For pricing I would ask that you email me for this, please indicate what length cable you would be looking for, 22G or 18G.
Thanks
Ken

Hi Ken.
I just sent you an e-mail regarding re-cabling costs for those two headphones. I forgot to mention that the cable length: its 6 feet 18G.
edit: I just noticed the phrase "bought from me new", so does that mean you don't do recabling for used hp's and not sold by you?

HI
No - I will recable a user supplied E9. I do not like to do this and of course make the added cost to recable and mod them cheaper if you do buy them from me new. I make sure the headphone is working properly and then will mod them. I do not take any headphones that have been previously modded or worked on unless it was done by me.
Thanks

Hey Ken, thanks for everything
The cabling work is outstanding.
I got the Ed9's and interconnects on Friday afternoon. There's one thing I would like to mention though. When I signed off the package, I had to catch a bus back to my place and the whole way I just sat there pondering, "is there even a headphone inside this box?" I never thought all the stuff inside weigh in at 4lbs 9ounce!!!111
[To avoid writing an essay]: As a first impression, I must admit that this headphone is "unique" in terms of music presentation. NOW I know why "There's something about Ultrasones..." My brain has no-need of the "mental" burn-in, it's tuned for the Edition 9!

Hi Akabeth,
Yes the E9s come with a metal clad foam lined carrying case, so yeah the box is kind of heavy. Cool yeah I trust you will enjoy these for a long long time and remember these will continue to improve over to about 400 hours or so.
Cheers

For the burn in adverse people! Fear not!!
I want people to know that ALO offers to get your ALO modded headphone/s a jump start on the burn in process. I use a Hagerman Audio Frydaddy audiophile burn in generator that uses a electronic waveform, a combination of wide band noise and variable frequency modulation to not only burn in the cable but also working the driver to exercise and moving bits to break them in. Jim has built this particular generator for not only burning in cables but also with settings that are specifically output for phonostages and amplifiers. A 2 or 3 day session on the Frydaddy and the headphone and cable are much more relaxed and enjoyable. This service is for free when you buy a headphone or cable, just ask when you buy. Keep in mind I only have one frydaddy so there may be a slight que for the device. But I just wanted all to know that I do have this free service for my customers. A 3 day run on the device is very nice.
Thank you
Ken

Nice service,,,about time someone provided this.
You should also provide this to those who have cables and headphones for a price and under a schedule.

Hey Steve,
I would be into providing this if that was something that people really wanted and had a demand, I could pick up a few more units from Jim.
Thanks
