The second stage of the modification -- Black Gate caps, et al. -- will be incorporated into the cable, which will somehow allow Vinnie to give us both options.
how does that work??? I cant think of how this can work at all. Can you please explain a little more?
FWIW...a 120GB HD of that size will kill your wallet. The Toshiba ones are insanely pricey, like $700 range...and they're not 120GB....
And that's $700+ BEFORE YOU EVEN HAVE THE iPOD, let alone have it modded, THEN have to buy the cable. Prepare to be iBroke.

mr_baseball: I guess times have changed and Head-fiers are getting laid like champs now. (Except I seriously doubt that's the case given all the anime and computer related threads around here..)
Headphoneus Supremus: Videographus Supremus: Makes audio cables using super-advanced materials, like "some clear tape" and "some not so clear tape."
Looks like we could've been in the same room at the same time? I just got back. Maybe you saw me, I had a large camera rig.
I agree this room sounded pretty good.
I guess I'll follow you to the other thread for impressions now and prepare pics.

My advice to you:
- Use your own ears as everybody's hearing and preferences are different.
- Try to audition as much equipment as possible to find your sound.
- Buy used to save money.
Innovation is great. Vinnie had to come up with something or his ability to expand Imod sales would be limited. I hope Imod V2 sounds as good, or better than V1. With Vinnie and Ken working on this project, it's a fair assumption the final product will be impressive.

So much for thinking my portable rig was almost complete. When I heard that Vinnie's refurbished 4g ipods were drying up, I felt pretty smart for having snagged an imod when I did (a couple weeks ago). I don't feel quite as smart now, but at least I have some beautiful music to make me feel better.
Seriously, though, I would kill to have a 5g imod, with the slimmer design, gapless playback through itunes (I'm not a rockboxer), and video playback. I just hope there's still enough refurbished 5g ipods around when I finally dig myself enough out of debt to buy a 5g imod.
