Ken for those people who already have a cryo dock all they need is a mini to mini could they have that instead to come with the portable Vcap upon request? Also does it have to be an Imod to work with the portable Vcap?
Thanks,
Izzy

It has to be an iMod. Otherwise, you are just adding stuff to the signal path which only lowers quality.
Is it possible to build the portable V-Cap case with input and output on the same side of the case (both 1/8 jacks, RCA not needed)?
Also do you have plans to build a more portable case with smaller polyproylene cpacitors (I'm thinking of the rather small Auricaps), again with both input and output on one side?

Brospin,
Yep, input and output on the same side is the better way to go in terms of function so you do not have to run the output cable all the way back around. I did the in and out on opposite sides on this first run of mine because I did not want to have to run the cap lead (which is like a coat hanger thick wire) all the way back on itself. Also that plate will be quite crowded inside and I am not sure if it is physically possible to cram all the hardware on the plate. However I do have a few here I am working on with the in and out on the same side so I will see soon.
Auricaps will work good also.
Cheers
Ken

Thanks Ken for the quick answer. Auricaps have soft wires on both sides, so redirecting all connections to one side of the case should be easier. In addition they are much smaller than the V-Caps (not much more than 1 x 1 inch for 200V up to 5 uF). I really look foward to seeing an Auricap based small-sized dock adpater case on your website soon!!
Wait... so does this mean you will be making a portable auricap 'dock' as well? Or are you still just tinkering with the original vcap design?
I decided to stay with the Vcap caps but might explore a Auricap version some time down the road. Right now I am making the Vcap ones. I might adjust the placement of the outputs, thats all.
Thx
Ken

Ken, this won't make anything much better. iPod's lineout is a bit too weak for large caps especially in classic. If you want to make it sounds real better, give a dedicated power supply source and you'll know what's the difference between home CD player and portable batteried power player.
