Good call, and this explains the different connector. Thanks

Vinnie,

Have you fitted any 120GB drives to imods yet?

They still don't seem to be available and I'm out of space.

Hi Steve,

I've tried the 100GB drive in an 80GB unit and it worked fine, but I never got my hands on a 120GB.

Best regards,

Vinnie

Do you know where you can get a 120? If yes, I'll post my imod off and you can send it back with the Sig. 30.2.

I haven't had success finding one.

Thanks and regards,

Steve.

I'm not sure if it even hit the market. When I search in google for 120GB, 1.8" hard drive, all I see are links to blogs that state rumors or even announcements, but where are the online stores selling them?

There's these cats, but they don't answer any of my annoying emails. They have a forum but the last question on the 120GB was 6 weeks ago. I guess they don't have them yet. Damn crappy patience!

Well... In good news, I guess this will mean some new headphones instead of a classic then. I'm thinking the HD650 right now. It looks like I have to miss the upcoming NC meet or loose a $1000 at work, so I think I will buy a used pair to try and compare to the DT990 so that I don't feel so bad.

Thanks Vinnie! Coincidentally, they answered my message just now! Haven't done so before but it's good to have the info now, what little there is.

Back to waiting.

Hello

Unfortunately, Samsung has delayed the release of the Spinpoint 120GB Drive until further notice. So no, we do not have those in stock.

Sorry about that.

I suppose this means the 80gb classic will still work fine if we wanted to switch. Would these work with a 30gb iMod and increase battery life likely?

I am pretty sure that they will.

The only thing that stinks is that opening up the iPod Classic is aweful! The metal front is so much harder to pry free of the rear case (it catches the little tabs in the rear case and bends them upwards and this just makes it harder to pry it free) and it is very hard to do this withoutleaving a little mark or two on the side where the two pieces meet.

does anyone know if the 80gb classic's drive can be fitted into the 5th G 30gb form factor?

I thought of sending it off getting it imodded, but then i love the thin form factor of the 30gb rather than the thick one of the 80, i was wondering if i could still use the same form factor for an 80gb disk used in the classic

Probably not. But I think it's not only because of the drive but the battery thickness too. I know it is possible to get I think it's a 100 or 120GB drive that'll work with the gen 5.5 ipods though. Just be carefull if you have to replace your mainboard because the gen 5 boards will NOT work in the gen 5.5 ipods. Trust me.

It may. The 80gb drive will definitely work if it fits because the 80 gb uses the same connector. Since the actual devices should be about the same size, I definitely don't want to see it ruled out. I thought it would a while ago, but never got confirmation. Keep searching for info if its something you actually wish to do. (I hope it doesn't need more system memory like they did with the 80gb 5.5gen in the iPod to properly cache everything with the firmware more so then I'm worried about the size of the 80gb classic drive)

On another note, those 100 or 120 gb drives will not fit in the 30gb iPod I believe, only the 80gb fifth gen.
