I own AKG K701 headphones and I've pretty much made up my mind about buying Bada PH-12 to amp them.
Now the only thing left to find is a USB DAC. Do you have recommendations for DAC's that work well with PH-12? How important is upsampling to audio quality?
My price limit is around $600.

must it be a DAC with usb input? You could also obtain an m-audio transit and feed a DAC's optical input, which may be standard on a wider selection of models.

As for DAC, you could look at second hand Benchmark or Larvy (not my cup), Stello (think Russ Andrew desktop range are either a rebadge or mod version of Stello, which is sold online direct from Korea), Mhdt Labs (valve NOS), Hagtech Chime (built your own DAC kit), Zero with mod (seems lot of comment in Headfi).
Do remember you will need a nice interconnect as well.
