Soundcard & Speakers? 0404 & Aego M 2.1?

Well I certainly haven't posted here in a while...but I thought I'd come back and ask this question in a place I knew it would be answered properly!

I'm looking into getting a dedicated soundcard for my desktop as well as a nice set of speakers to go with it. My initial reaction, based on what I knew a year or two ago, was to go for the EMU 0404 and some Acoustic Energy Aego M 2.1 Speakers...would I be right in thinking this is still a good choice, or are there now better options?

Also, does anyone know about the synergy between these two products?

Why does the USB 0404 cost over twice as much as the PCI version? Isn't that more than even the 1212?
