Ive been loath to spend on a new CD front end, imagining that a high quality combo player would surface. Ive been playing around with some DACs in the meantime, but now Im starting to realise that no magic combo player will ever appear so I'm tempted to give in to a new CDP.
Keep the info and feedback coming about the Saturn. Its merits, its flaws and how it compares to other players.
Speaking of comparisons, does anyone know how the Saturn compares to a Cary?
The Saturn is worth the wait. I've had mine for just over 2 weeks. The burn-in process takes 300+ hours. I have it in my speaker rig right now and its sounding really good. Too good in fact, my Apollo sourced headphone rig is getting less and less listening time. I may have to buy another one to replace my Apollo so that my headphones won't feel deprived.

I can't speak to the new Cary's (306 SACD or 303/300), but I used to own the 306/200 which retailed for about $5000. I like the Saturn much more than 306/200. The 306/200's upsampling never sounded natural to me. I never felt relaxed when I listened to it. The Saturn has the most natural mid's and highs that I've heard from the digital products that I have owned including the Meridian 500 transport/566.24 DAC, Sony XA-9000ES (currently own), Linn Ikemi, Cary 306/200, Rega Apollo, and several DACs such as the Monarchy 22B and the Bel Canto DAC1.

I have no regrets at all about spending the $2300.
The Saturn has such a musical, natural sound about it, that it really amazes me. I think it is a great buy for a new player.
Very quiet here for last month............who else has purchased Saturn and how does it compare to previous/current CDP?
Nothing really new to say.
The Saturn is better in every way than the Planet 2K it replaced. I have no regrets at all in my purchase.
The real question, because it would be hard not to buy a great CDP for $2k-$2.5K either new or used, is do you like the Rega sound? It's different than Naim, or Meridian for example, not better or worse. Best thing to do is find a dealer that will let you take a Saturn home for a weekend and decide for yourself.

The Saturn trumps the Apollo and has only gotten better since the first day I got it. It was surprisingly better and noticeably so right out of the box. Here’s the skinny compared against the mighty Apollo…
The Saturn has better…
detail retrieval,
focus and clarity,
dynamics and PRAT,
quantity and quality bass
and..
lower floor noise,
more separation between voices and instruments,
wider, deeper (bigger) soundstage,
and not as upfront as the Apollo.
The Saturn hasn't really rested. Running it pretty much 24 hours a day. Probably got around 140 hours on her...
The Saturn does sound very impressive and within the last year or so I’ve heard the E5, Moth Hyper DAC, Wadia 861, Cary 303/200, G08, Apollo, 508.24, and 588.24 just to name some of the more memorable ones.
