One of the first ones in Seattle has just replaced my Planet 2k. The short listen I had before I bought it decided me. I have to work this weekend so it may be a little while before I get a good feel for what it is doing.

I just spent about 20 minutes with one and it sounds very nice. Not nearly enough time to form any real impressions other than I liked what I heard. I will spend more time tomorrow.

Apollo v. Saturn?
Price?
$2400, punchy and dynamic. I am heading back to the store in a few minutes to hopefully spend an hour or two. I will post some impressions a little later.
Never listened to the Apollo, went straight from a Planet 2K.
The Saturn is much more dynamic in it's sound than the Planet, bass is punchy and very controlled, treble is very clear, but not shrill, or sibilant. Sound stage is wide, and the very distinct placement of the instruments or singer. One of the things that stood out most was the background was totally silent, there was nothing to distract from the music.
I will have more time tonight to listen.
Another thing I noticed was that the combo of the Saturn/Cary seems to favor my Senn HD650, over the ATH-AD2000, but I am not really sure about that yet.
Just got back from spending about 2 hours in front of the Saturn and Apollo. Got a chance to switch back and forth and thought they were both nice. The Saturn is the same basic sound of the Apollo with more speed, control of bass, dynamics, and a little clearer sound. It is a very nice CDP.
The system it was in was really nice and one I would think the player would be found in as far as price range goes. Amplification was the new NAD integrated amp.(master series M3) It is wonderful. I think the price was around $2.8K. The speakers were the Thiel PCS monitors and the system was very, very, nice together. I have heard the Arye cx-7e cdp in this same system on three occasions and it never had me sitting there and listening for a long period of time like the Saturn.
If you want to hear a more powerful, dynamic, and cleaner sounding Apollo....The Saturn is it. If I had the extra cash I would duplicate this system and have it in my bedroom in a heartbeat!

There is something about the Saturn I have never gotten from a CD before. Listening to Sonya Kitchell I had a very eerie feeling that she was standing in the dark in front of me. The imaging was that strong.
The delay in loading the CD's is not a problem for me, it ranged from maybe 10 sec max, and was normally only 2-3.
I have to say I am very pleased with the Saturn so far.

I just returned from 3 hours with the Saturn and Cayin SCD-50T. The shop 50T has a over 200 hours on it and the Saturn about 60. The amps were Cayin Mono Blocks with EL34 tubes and a Herron Linestage. The speakers were System Audio SA 1550's. As I stated earlier, and others have agreed, the Saturn is punchy and dynamic. The soundstage and depth were excellent. I agree with the above that the Saturn has the same house sound as the Apollo, just better. It is a much more significant piece of gear in terms of case quality and weight. I will post some picks later tonight. I felt that the the Cayin held its own against the Saturn. As a result, I am most likely purchasing the Cayin because the deal is too good to pass up.
Oz and I did some additional listening switching out power cords. We started with a $550 Soundstring > $350 Synergistic Research > $650 active Synergistic Research cable. I know that there are many disbelievers out there and that's cool, but moving to the Synergitic Research active cable really opened things up with both cdp's. The soundstage seemed to widen, fine details that weren't previously apparent were heard. The tape hiss on some recordings became more prominent. I am not going out and spending $350, let alone $650 on a cable anytime soon but there does appear to be a benefit to doing so.
