isn't this like... forbidden? They used the PS1 as their source(scroll down for pics).
Anybody wanna do a comparison of this and say... an Oppo or a Dreamcast?

No. Its all a load of crap. Do not listen to 6moons. They are the undisputed champions of snake oil and reviewers who are swayed too much by the placebo effect.
I highly doubt the PS1 is better than real high-end source, or mid-fi sources. I believe it's just supposed to be a relatively adequate, budget source (compared to everything else out there).

I have used it and it is quite good but only a very bad 6k$ player would be challenged. It is much better then most cheap cdp's but you need to mod it to release its true potential.

There's about 140 pages on the Playstation 1 as redbook source, including some very serious mods at diyaudio, everything from a couple of quick solder points for wires and a 12 inch inner tube underneath for vibration to full metal case fabrications for top loading cdps, if I remember correctly.
the new issue of stereophile even goes after this rumor. shame on you, shame on us for even attempting to extend the life of this audiophiel equivalent of a silly urban legend... but I guess that's where the net excels
