Before doing anything I would listen to it a little while first. If you find the XLR outputs lacking I think I would consider an OPAMP change first. After trying that you could try the Zapfilter, Garbz' unbalanced to balanced convertor or my personal choice would be to install some sort of transformer output on the Eastsound.
I have the CD E5 as well and was wondering if any of you leave the unit on 24/7. I've done this with my previous player (Yamaha) with good results in sound quality.
Art: According to Snowy Law, Eastsound has had two E5s on continuously, now for over a year, and have had absolutely no problems with either.
It is more important, to leave equipment on, to conserve tube life, than with SS.
I only turn my equipment off (tube or SS) when I know I will not use it for another 10 hours or more.
CAR: iRiver IMP 400 and 350 PCDP, BLAudio MK II solid state transformer out amp, Etymotic 4S Your system is only as good as its weakest link. When you replace one part, and very obvious improvement is noted, that was your weakest link. FEEDBACK
Hehe, got mine too today! . Only took 2 days to England - impressed.
