You paid to ship rock from China? I hope it was very special rock.
yes, it keeps a special place in my heart. cattylink sent it to me without my prior knowledge. I opened the box containing the IC and power cord and bundled in it was the granite. I wish snowy had alerted me he was going to include these, I would have politely turned him down as I could get it at the hardware store for 10 bux a slab, much cheaper than the shipping cost from china. fyi it weighs about 10lbs..
Is it my imagination or has the toroidal transformer been moved slightly over to the left (nearer the power supply)???
Yes it does look like the toroid is closer to the power supply.
I also just received my cd-e5 this afternoon. And I have to say it has the most impressive packing job I've ever seen! I wouldn't doubt that if this packing job was done in north america would have cost $30-40!!!! And all this just for something valued only at $750!!! I am really interested to see how the mega buck $$$ cd players are being boxed and shipped?!
I also received the 3 well packaged granite pieces in a separate box with the cables , it is absolutely insane to be shipping those things international express!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So what do I do with the granite pieces?? place them on top of the cd player for damping? What about the 2 smaller pieces?
Cattylink also included the Xindak silver audio fuse. I opened up the top cover of the cd player looking for a fuse to replace, but I can't find any fuse in there?? Can someone help me out on how to replace the fuse?
Thanks,
JAck

I thought it looked smaller... from what I remember there is not much room to move mine over.

Back of the player above the IEC. It is a pain to get open... I had to use a razor blade.

I thought it was smaller at first but on looking closer it seems to just be moved over (could be both I suppose but don't think so).
If you look close they have actually moved the circuit board to the left (looking at the cdp from the front) of the transformer over a little as well. Look relative to the edge of the power supply pcb - in earlier models the little pcb extends farther towards the transformer than in the latest ones.
I don't think this is an issue although it wouldn't surprize me if they were trying to get the transformer a bit farther away from the pcb on the right (possible to reduce any possible interference???). Probably one of those better safe than sorry kind of things seeing how well built it is.
gah! you just had to bring that up! i didn't even notice the torridal before that. Ok, I'm not getting any sleep tonight. Can someone with calipers and the old style measure the diameter of their transformer? I hope Eastsound hasn't downgraded/cut costs by putting in a smaller one.

Size doesn't always matter - smaller could be higher quality.
I know from experience.
Seriously, the 6th generation model does have a smaller transformer but it could be simply more compact winding without any change in the transformer's value.
My old E5 sounds the same as my new one, and also other E5s I have listened to - they all sound the same. Believe me, my headphone system is very revealing (as is the E5 itself) and picks up any sound change in a change of components used.
One remarkable thing about the E5 is its sameness in sound using different E5 units - extremely consistent. This is true in comparing pre-6th generation models with the current 6th generation models also.

To be more accurate can you go six places past the decimal place for a measurement? Just to be sure.
Actually it does appear that the transformer is indeed smaller and the power board is also smaller and different colored. I am thinking that the company that just bought Eastsound, a little while ago, may be outsourcing the transformer as opposed to hand making them special. And probably sourced out some other cheaper parts as well. Bull boogers! I hate to see this happen.
