Default News :: Teac Esoteric X-01D2 SACD Player + DAC Coming Jan 2007

http://www.teac.co.jp/av/esoteric/x01_ux1/x01d2

Coming in at around a hefty $12.7k USD. As I don't understand Japanese
very well (specifically audio jargon), I can't say any of the good stuff in
regards to specs and all.

Anyone able to translate?

Vague translation here:

Very interesting indeed. I wonder how it will compare with the dCS P8i and the already very well established X-01SE My impression of the X-01 Limited is extremely good. The dCS P8i just struck me as a ridiculously detailed source and very true to the recording, but IMO not the most musical (slightly cold sounding if I were to be very picky). If I could have a mix between the dCS P8i and the X-01 Limited sound at the same price range, then that would be great. $12.7k is just a tad more than the price of the X-01 Limited and the dCS P8i in Hong Kong. Another player I'd like to compare it with is the Naim CDS3/XPS2, which is costs iirc a couple of grand less than the X-01 Limited and the dCS P8i but delivers round about the same performance.

There are a few members on Head-Fi that have Esoteric players, eg Afrikane and Sleestack. I believe Sleestack was going to get the X-01 Limited, but in the end went for the P-03/D-03.

Why not? the other top end players from teac are really well regarded.

It also means you think stax or the sony r10 are crap!

no I think Esoteric/R10/Stax are excellent, I just don't typically buy Japan made/Japanese brand stuff.

Is the reason being import cost/service return issues?

I did end up with the P-03/D-03. Although the X-01 is a fantastic player, I wanted something more versatile and that incorporated Esoteric's latest PCM -> DSD conversion. Does the D2 do PCM->DSD or does it continue to use the DSD-> PCM?

I don't know if this will help or not. I basically used google translate, but still can't answer your question!
