Yeah, the 8001 is an impressive sounding machine indeed!
I am so glad others are 'discovering' this excellent player, and its value compared to others out there.
Again, I auditioned the Rega Saturn and the Cambridge 840C last year, and wound up keeping the 8001.
I still love this machine everytime I listen to it.
Its spacious, organic, smooth, and detailed sound is quite addictive!
It sounds incredible with my Sennheiser HD-650, Stefan Audio Art Equinox Sennheiser upgrade cable, and HeadAmp GS-1 amp.
The 650's/Equinox also sounds incredible with the built-in headphone jack, it just needs alittle more output power.
I keep this player turned on all the time, even with no disc playing, and this seems to help the warm-up time sound issue quite abit.
I just wonder if the upcoming 8003 will be a worthwhile sonic improvement with its updated chassis, Cirrus Logic 4398 DAC, and HDAM S2 modules, and I wonder if its internal headphone amp will be as good as the 8001?
Can't wait to find out!

Just became part of Team Sa8001! I bought one used on ebay for a reasonable price and with the Microsoft Live 25% cashback it became even better (that is assuming I ever see that money )! I have been thinking of buying this player for my second setup for quite a while. I was going to get a refurbished at accessories4less until I saw this one on ebay.

Anyway, I just wanted to share my good news will all.

This will replace my Rotel RCD-961. I hope that I see some improvement in performance! (Will I? Did I make a good move? Well, time will tell.) I will either use this with an X-can v3 with Little Pinkie power supply (no Pink Floyd mods though... I never got around to trying this) or move my GS-1 to my second setup (right now I have both the GS-1 and SP Extreme connected to my Stello DA100 in my main rig). I use my GS-1 with low impedance cans like ATH-D2000s and others and Extreme with Senns and AKG K01s, etc. I guess I might sell the X-can if it is holding back the system too much (i.e. if x-can is holding back sa8001 -> x-can v3 -> can of choice). It is convenient to have both GS-1 (ss) and Extreme (tube) amp in my main setup (marantz cd4001 transport or macbook pro/optical -> stello da100 -> gs-1 or SP extreme -> can of choice).

Any advice?

I am anxious to hear/see this SA8001. I know you've been drooling over this for a while, so I'm glad you found a good deal on one.

You'll get paid on the Live Search rebate - at least I did on my first one. I have two more pending. That's a sweet deal. Hard to beat money for nothing.

Current Head-Fi threat level is orange. Intelligence indicates a high risk of money being spent, but a specific target has not yet been identified.

I almost decided to get a Paradisea 3 to use with my Rotel transport instead but decided to stick with the SA8001 (I don't need anything more than a cd player in my second setup). I guess I will have to buy a few SACDs now to see how it handles them. The player should arrive by Monday.... I think this is probably my last update for a while (I hope).
