I cannot speak for the 15, but my SA7-S1 has made a huge difference in my listening.

It seems a lot of people got the 15 and 11 and Mod them. There is a lot of companies out there right now offering the mods for those. And those reviews seem to really take them to another level.

And congrats on the 8001's being bought. I think it is a great machine for the price.

Cheers,

ComfyCan, I hope you post again once your new cdp has about 100-150 hours of burn in. I would imagine the bass will get tighter plus the highs will mellow and be more defined.

I will be sure to do that. You mean this thing is going to get better?? Happy-Happy/Joy-Joy!!

Now I've got the bug for some new monitors. I ran analog out to my m902, and using it as a pre I ran analog out of the m902 to a vintage Sansui receiver hooked up to two decidedly mediocre Sony bookshelf monitors. It kicks butt, but I can tell it would be a lot better with good monitors.

There's always another level--that's what makes this hobby so great (and so expensive). Oh well. At least I don't smoke crack.

Btw, SA7001 vs SA7001KI.

Marantz SA7001/SA7001KI Super Audio compact disc players

SA7001KI = SA8001 ?

Btw, I just got the SA7001, I find that it competent both as a source and headphone amp.

But I don't find it warm, I find it bright and lively, like the CD5001 and CD6002.

From the link above the KI version is tweaked to have a warmer midrange, I guess that is the difference between SA7001 and SA8001?

Default SA8003

I've just taken delivery of an SA8001, and am really loving it.
However, I've just noticed the SA8003 details are out in the "PureBasic" line.

Hi-Fi Choice

At least I got my SA8001 at refurbished price, so saved a bit there. I don't need the DAP stuff in the new line, but I wonder if the CS4398 will be any better than CS4397?

Also, the new "M1" casework wouldn't really match my other components.

Interesting all the same.

synthmad, where did you buy a refurbished sa8001? And can I ask how much it was?

Thanks,
Paul

I got mine from accessories-4less:

Marantz SA8001 CD SACD Player audiophile quality | Accessories4less

They are currently unavailable, but you have to keep checking; seem to get snapped up real quick. There's the option to be notified by email when they get some in.

I've bought Marantz refurb kit from them before, and never had any problems. Other than the refurb packaging, it's always looked like new.

Is there anyone who would comment on the performance of the 8001 playing SACDs and outputting through the analog outputs to their headamp?

Does it make SACD playback affordable and worth the investment?

I'm on my way to a Cambridge Audio 840C but have been contemplating giving SACD a whirl for kicks.
