i've got a Sony PS-X800--costing about $1000 in 1980. considered by many to be the best consumer tt sony ever made and in Japan it received accolades from many audiophile mags. i'd say it's easily as good if not better than my scout.

Asr, here is my contribution to your list.

SOTA Star TT (vacuum platter): >$1K
Eminent Technology Tonearm (air bearing): >$1K
Kiseki Agate Ruby cartridge: >>$1K

To echo Tom, imo the cart is really the source. The TT and arm ensure that the cart is working to its full potential.

I also have a Magnum Dynalab tuner.

Since I answered the digital list it would be rude of me to not to list my analog front end. Avid Acutus with SME V and Denon cart.

I am the proud owner of a Nakamichi 1000
tapedeck (the one that made reel to reel obsolete).

HI-FI WORLD - OLDE WORLDE - TRIO KT7500 TUNER

According to this 180UKP in 1978 when the Linn Sondek LP12 cost 220 and it was nearer 3 dollars to the pound. I'd say it qualifies. Sounds really lovely and there are some interesting mods here Tuner Information Center - Jim and Bob's DIY Mods

Would'nt say it made reel to reel obselete but it certainly made them sit up and take notice

I have the Nak CR7 which is also one of their best, not quite as bombproof in build as your 1000 though.

Its mechanic was legendary but it was not musical. The 1000, 1000ZXL, 1000 ZXL Gold and 700 ZXL are the real best.
