I'm in a bit of a dilemma. I'm deciding between one of these three DACS:
1. Keces 151
2. Keces 131
3. Yulong DAH1
The Keces 151 has many positive reviews on Head-Fi and is fairly cheap. The only problem is that it only supports usb and I want a versatile DAC that can last me a long time. A DAC that supports digital input is much more versatile than a usb DAC which is limited to the computer; that is why I may consider the Keces 131 but it is quite a bit more expensive. I don't have any 24 bit music so I'm not sure if the price difference is worth just the extra compatibility in my case. The choice which will save me the most money (and the most space, I'm going to be a college kid :P) is the Yulong DAH1. It supports usb and digital so is technically the most versatile and as well has a HEF188 headphone amp built into it which is shown to be a close copy to the very expensive and pretty decent (or at least I thought so when I heard it) Black Cube Linear. The Yulong leaves the least space for upgrading however, and few reviews of the unit exist.
P.S. You won't get a sensible answer from anyone cos nobody on HeadFi, apart from the manufacturer, seems to have both the 131 and 151. The manufacturer for his part claims the 131 is better, but then needs to justify the extra cost doesn't he?
One comment: the manufacturer claims coax digital is preferable for the 131, and that it is best to have a good quality transport. E.g., recommendation: buy an EMU 1212 just for its SPDIF. The 131 has no re-sync buffer thingy so apparently wants a well timed stream. Whether this is really an issue or not, who can say. But if so, and your 'free' onboard soundcard doesn't meet the standard, it makes the 131 a LOT more expensive in effect than the 151.
As to the Yulong, well, it's hell ugly! - and if it's a Chinese knock-off, don't reward the pirates...
