Default Do you completely turn off your sound system or leave the on stand by all the time ?

Im sure i read a thread about leaving your equipments on standby or completely turning it off before... but i just couldnt find it using the search button.

anyway, im going to have my CDP and headphone amp connected to a surge protector.

my question is, if im not using it, should i completely turn off the CDP (main power off / unplug) or better to leave it on "stand-by" mode all the time ?(forever - unless theres a storm)?
i am thinking about leaving the CDP on standby all the time since i read that turning off and on may shorten the CDP life ? (plus needs warm up when you start listening)

and for headphone amp, i'll be using headsave classic, means that i'll be using a 24V DC power supply to power the amp.
now, i think for this one, i should completely unplug the power supply when im not using it, or should i leave everything connected ? what do you think ?
im not really confident in leaving power supply on all the time, since im not really sure about the quality...

i just hate the idea of one of my equipments pop because its always plugged..

PS: is headsave classic categorised as CLASS A amp ? (im not familiar with amp classes) because i read that class A amp shouldnt really be left on all the time due to heat it generates..

Unless sated otherwise by the manufacturer, leave everything powered up all the time unless there's a heavy storm or you go on vacation. I wouldn't worry about shortenining the lifespan of anything (except perhaps higher power class-A amps that get really hot) and the power draw should be somewhat minimal (class-A amp exception is also possible here.)

don't know about the biasing on the Classic, but it won't be seriously high. Class-A for most (almost all) headphone amps won't generate a lot of heat. Some of KGs more extreme designs (Blue Hawaii) and a class-A power amplifier will generate enough heat to heat up your room...

I turn mine off, since it uses too much power and heats up the room way too much if I left the whole setup on all the time.

I leave on solid state stuff that has a standby mode. I turn off tubes and other ss stuff if I'm not going to be using them for 8 hours or so.
No thunderstorms around here, but a high quality surge protector might not be a bad idea for you...

I leave all my stuff on all of the time -- computer, CD-RW & DVD burner drives, and my reference system. It really doesn't consume as much as my air conditioner which I try to limit to fan mode most of the time.

I turn mine off when I'm not home. Otherwise, the whole place will be like a sauna. My computer, on the other hand, stays on 24/7. The last time I turned off my computer was during a really bad storm about a month ago.

The 2 monoblocks are off when not in use except over the weekend when I normally keep them on standby. They heat up the room too much when it is warm.

Stealth off except for weekend when I keep it on standby.

I think all tube amps should have the ability to have a standby mode where low voltage keeps the heaters at a constant temperature. You then apply the high voltage only when you want to listen

I don't get to spend much time listening to my gear nowdays as much as I would like to. Getting off work late and other commitments have limited my listening time to mostly on weekends. So with that being the case I turn off all of my equipment until I have the time to listen to them again.

My DVD player has a stand-by mode but I often turn it off, or leave it in stand-by.
My subs have no power switches, so they stay on and auto stand-by.
My DAC and hybrid amp are turned off completely.

sry for double post: your amp.. doesnt it have an on off switch? if it does u dont have to unplug it... if probably wouldnt even matter if u just left it on unless you're worried about it overheating or something. If it doesnt have a on off switch then I guess u have to plug/unplug whenever u want to turn it no/off if u choose to.
