Just purchased the new scd-xb770. Initially, sound even on sacd fell short of red book reproduction of Meridian 588. After a few hours of break in, sound on red book cd now closing in on Meridian 588. And I wish I had aore sacd's! Just curious, did you buy your player in the UK since this model is not available in the US

I read this comments on audioasylum about my SACD/CD player by SONY. Probably americans are not familiar with it. I dont think it is available over there. It sure has gotten good critics at magazines I saw but I just cant believe hat even redbook sounds so close to the MERIDIAN. If it really is close to the MERIDIAN sounds then I might as well stop dreaming of saving and gettting a used 588. There is no point if it is going to sound this bad!
SACD is fine but redbook really sucks in some aspects compared to my vinyl rig.
Comment on the above quote please. I am afraid of getting audiophile advice as many people (audiophiles) might think it is very reasonable to spend an extra $3000 to get 5% improvement. I am not into that kind of way of thought.
