All of Denon's changers in the 2xx and 3xx series are unreliable, in my opinion. They're also difficult or impossible to repair since they don't have many adjustments. The carousel mechanism is also weak.
Agreed.
I own the denon dcm-380 and it has difficulty reading discs. I've found various ways around the problem, but for 300+ it should play ALL the time. I suggest you stay away from these changers.

The Absolute Sound really likes the Oppo 970HD and so do i - i bought one! $150 is hard to beat for a universal and the SACD sounds particularly awesome.
+1
love my Oppo.

Just read the article myself (January 2007 - Issue 168)
Wish it was available in Australia. At that price it looks like a very good way to try SACD without breaking the bank (or even putting a dent in it).
Plus CD, HDCD etc, etc.
an old suggestion, but the classic Toshiba 3950/3960 players still sound very good for their price. I haven't heard the Oppo, but I'd imagine it's probably as good for a bit more money/features.
Can't go wrong with either. They will probably sound pretty good, but will be more or less disposable.

I use the CE375 which works very well and sounds pretty good. I would assume it sounds similar to the CE595, but they do use different DACs so I'm not sure. Anyway, it's nice going from using an MP3 player as a source to a real CDP. Ah the old joy of using CDs again
