Default CDP vs Transport and DAC

At the same price range, which is the better investment?

I've always thought the transport / DAC to be a superior setup. Either piece can be upgraded later.

Cheap transport + DAC or higher priced CDP?

Nice CDP vs. cheap transport + nice DAC?

Just found them... any changes of opinion?

I still like the transport + DAC setup. You have control over how much money you spend on each piece of the puzzle. If you decide after some time that you aren't happy with your sound... you can sell / trade the DAC out and alter the sound of your rig easily. There's something to be said for the simplicity of a nice CDP, but I still prefer the transport / DAC approach.

The day my CDP can play DVD audio as well I shall consider stop using my DVD as a transport with my DAC.
