I only see it for $1300 on a few different sites so I thought I'd ask if anyone knows of online retailers are selling it for less.

before i purchased my mini-dac i looked into pricing for the dac1 usb. it seems that when the unit first came out, people were able to purchase it directly from benchmark at an introductory price. other than that, i was not able to find any discounts on the web. everyone sold it at the same price.

That's kind of what it's looking like to me but I thought I'd check before I paid full price.
Is the silver one silver all over or just on the face?

what is it about the dac1 you like that the da100 did not offer. balanced outputs or something else.
The DA100 is fantastic but I think it would be best with AD2000, CD5k and other hyper detailed cans that may leave some folks wanting more bass. The DA100 has a heafty bottom end and I found it to be a little overwhelming with bassy cans like the GS1000 and D5000.
As I hunt for some PS-1's I'm thinking that the detailed/analytical SQ of the DAC1 will mate nicely with their very warm character... and if not at least I will have 30 days Apogee and PS-1 is a nice combo but I did not find the Apogee all that pleasing with a tube amp in the mix which is where I plan on going. The DAC1 is a bit too expensive but it has all the options I'm looking for in a size and design that is very appealing.
