hehe, well the height is probably for the i/o panel and blue power supplies. DAC chips themselves are very flat and barely rise above the PCB boards. Other DACs are the same, unless they have tubes.

Well, I am kind of comparing to Stello DA100, which actually has quite a bit going on inside.

The price issue is kind of gone with the DAC3. I just read of a site (an official reseller) who sells DAC3s for under $1899. Brand new. Still higher than a DA-10 but considering DA-10s always cost $975 or so new it is more of an interesting dialogue.
And again I will say the DA-10 does nothing near the DAC3 in terms of higher end frequencies, treble. The DAC3 can sparkle.

I hear you - especially when compared to the Stellos. I owned a Stello DA220 and it had a lot going on and a lot of weight but in the sound quality section it is was comparable to the paperweight DA-10. Also the DA-10 on the inside looks like a little more a electronics board.

Me too. I had a newsletter in my email inbox from an audio vendor and now I cannot find it. Could it be I imagined it? I am sure I did not because right after I sold my DAC3 I saw the posting and thought, "Wow I'm glad I sold me before this came out because then mine would have never sold."
O well - if I come across the newsletter again I will certainly post here.
SR-71Panorama, grateful if you could tell me what opamps are used for the XLR and RCA outs. Also, would you be able to find out what is used for the sample rate conversion? Thanks a bunch!
