ok guys I got a 160 gb appletv, which I love. Im running it out using the optical out into a panny sa-xr45 digial receiver. would a dac give it better sound. don't get me wrong it sounds really good using the optical out. i was looking at hi-fi digital audio super pro usb dac707 from dyikits.com. is this good for the price? is there anything better for around $100usd?
Is anybody running an EXTERNAL dac from there appletv?
This is an interesting thread, I have a question to the guys using the ATV to connect to the DAC. Are you connecting the ATV to the DAC directly?
Do you guys know if this combo will work - ATV > Ethernet switch > Router > PC >USB DAC > Amp > HP
it would if you browse your ATV from your PC via iTunes. You have your iTunes files on your PC already so I'm not seeing the benefit of going this direction.
The ATV has an optical out, so you should be able to go ATV > DAC > Amp > HP.
Thanks goldenratioph, the reason why I wanted to know if ATV > Ethernet switch > Router > PC >USB DAC > Amp > HP would work is because IF I do get a ATV, it will not be placed next to my PC.
The ATV will be placed at the other end of the room, so I need to use the Ethernet to connect it to my network. Hence I cannot go ATV > DAC > Amp > Me
It may be a little awkward and complicated to set up, but I don't see why it wouldn't work and as the whole chain is digital until it gets to the DAC, the SC should be the same as if it was going from ATV > DAC > Amp.
